3 Simple Steps To Get Free Original Content for Your Website

As a web business owner you will be well aware that content for your website is good. The more content the better, but of course it must be relevant and of high quality. If you know anything about search engine optimisation you know that Google loves content. The problem most webmasters face is how to get the content without writing it yourself, which takes time, or without spending money to pay someone else to do it.

I recently faced this problem. I wanted some fresh content for one of my sites, but beyond sales pages and basic features such as contact information I really didn't have the experience with the subject matter to produce good content. To get around this problem I came up with a method to attain good quality content, for free, which I could use for my web business site. It's not the easiest method, but to get good content you sometimes have to work a little harder. This is how I did it.

Step 1: Think about your customers needs.

Before chasing content you have to think what sort of content your customers want and what needs they have. Obviously you want people coming to your business site that are interested in what you offer so think about what other things complimentary information they might be interested in. For example if you are running a website that sells tennis racquets then you should fill your site with quality articles on how to improve your tennis game.

If you can provide valuable free content then your traffic will increase but it's important to make sure it's the right kind of traffic. By providing content that attracts your target market you have the best chance of converting those prospects into customers.

Step 2: Locate the best articles based on customer needs.

Now that you have a good idea what sort of content your potential customers would be interested in you need to get out there and find the best articles to meet this need. Thankfully it's Google's job to do this so all you need to do is think like someone that would be searching for content in this area and pump it into Google. The search results at the top should be the best and most relevant content on the subject matter you are looking for. If it's not then you might need to adjust your search terms until you find some good articles.

The ideal situation is to find a hobbyist fan, someone that writes articles for fun to indulge in their hobby and happens to be an expert too so they write good stuff. You can usually spot these types of websites because they are not professional, after all they are not trying to run a business, they just want to help others out while they enjoy their hobby. So continuing the tennis example you should hopefully find a few mad keen tennis fans or trainers that have written up some good content.

A note on PageRank:

Try and pick the articles that have a high PageRank, at least a 4 or more is best. The first page or two of results on Google should bring in those types of sites. If you don't know what PageRank is read about it. When a page has a high PageRank and shows up in the first few results in Google you can assume the content is of a high standard. If in doubt, sit down and read the article, you should be able to judge for yourself if it provides

something of quality.

Step 3: Ask for permission to publish the content.

This is the tricky part. Write out an email template to send to the author of the article explaining who you are and what you want to do with the article. Be sure to be completely honest and tell them that your site is commercial although you will not be selling or making any direct money from the article. Make sure you state that the article will be clearly sourced with a link back to the author's homepage. Here is an example from an email I used:

My name is INSERT YOUR NAME and I am the owner of an INSERT YOUR
BUSINESS located in INSERT YOUR CITY, COUNTRY AND URL. We are
looking for resources to add to a new online library that we are

would be perfect for our library. In fact I think it could be one of
the main features, if you are willing to share it. We will of course
list you as the author and link directly back to your website.

The library will be completely free to use and we are presently
putting together a collection of quality articles to help our
visitors with INSERT YOUR SUBJECT AREA (E.G. TENNIS GAME). We do
not intend to make direct profits from the library, it is intended
to add value to our website and hopefully indirectly increase the
sales of our INSERT WHAT YOUR BUSINESS DOES. The business is a
commercial enterprise. If you have any questions regarding my
business or intentions please contact me.

Be certain to sign it off personally and make yourself available for any questions. I also request a response from the author regardless of their decision so you can be certain the email made it through. You have to ensure the author has some potential value from allowing his/her article to be re-published. In this case it can be fame and traffic back to his/her website.

This technique will not always work. Every single author may reject you, some may never respond. Your business may operate in an industry where there just isn't any good individual authors writing good content that isn't in some way linked to a commercial enterprise. To get around this you can offer to buy the content if you have the available funds, but I advise against paying much unless the article really is top class and not distributed anywhere else.

I sent out about ten emails and four authors agreed to have their articles published. This provided me with thousands of words of quality free content. Best of all these articles are probably only published in a handful of places, perhaps only on my site and the author's site. It was definitely worth the time and effort I put in and I recommend you give it a try too, you may be surprised at how generous people can be.

“backlinks” (links from other sites to yours). Word to the wise, the actual text of the link shouldn't be YourSite.com. Use one of your keywords in the text. If you sell DVDs by mail, the text of your link on another site should be “Comedy DVDs” or “Action DVDs”, not StevesDvdStore.com.

Third, Use a blog and write about topics related to your site. Put a static link to your site in the left hand column. Blogger is free and owned by Google. If you provide good content and update continually, it won't be long before the search engines spider your entire site – they'll be following it from the blog. Make sure and ping the blog to different search engines to hurry them along in the process.

Step #1. Set up a account with Amazon.

This is the easiest part of the whole task. Simply go to http://www.amazon.com and set up an account for yourself.

This should only take a few minutes and is very straight forward.

Step #2. Click on your "Your Name" Store tab.

Once you've set up your account you should have been given a password in order to login to your account.

If you're not logged in already, login now.

Now, from within the members area there should be a row of tabs at the top of the members area, click on the one that says "Your Name" Store(ex. 'Corys Store' tab).

This will take you to a different area with a different sub-menu.

Click on the tab in the sub-menu that says "About You Area".

Step #3. Setting up your "About You Area".

Now this is where you have to pay 'Special Attention' because this is what people will see when they click on your 'About You' tab.

Assuming you are at the 'About You Area' you'll notice that you have spots available to put your Picture, Name, Nickname, eMail Address, Real Name and About Me.

Go ahead and fill out all the area's accept your 'About Me'.

The 'About Me' spot is what I'll talk about in the next step, but for now, just fill out all the other area's and if you want to put up a picture of yourself, you can, it's up to you.

Step #4. Setting up the 'About Me' section.

This is probably the single most important part of this whole process because this is where your potential customer will read about who you are and what you and your business is all about, so do take this seriously.

Now, you have about 4,000 characters of space to write up a description about who you are and what your business is about, so its up to you on how long you want your description to be.

Before you start writing your description this is what You have to do First within the first 70 to 80 characters of your 'About Me' description and I'll show you an example of how mine looks so you'll be able to see this in action.

(ex. About me: Hi, I'm Cory Threlfall

and I'm the Editor/Publisher of 'www.internetwondersezine.com' which is a ...)

Do you see what I've done?

I've incorporated my 'Domain Name' in quotes into my First 70 to 80 characters of my description so when they click on my 'About Me' and read my profile they'll also see my Domain Name, and if they wish to find out more about me they can either 'Copy and Paste or Type' my domain into there browser which will then bring them to my website where they can either 'Subscribe' to my newsletter or read my sale copy which will then get them to Opt-In to my newsletter.

This is where the 'List Building' starts to take place from the traffic sent through Amazon.

Now, we've already established that Amazon is a High Traffic website and now that you've set up your 'About Me Area' the way I've outlined it above I'm now going to show you how to direct Amazon's traffic to your website.

Step #5. Directing Amazon's traffic to your website.

This is where the fun starts. And once you see How its done you'll probably kick yourself in the butt like I did when I was shown How-To do this.

What we need to do now is a little exercise so you'll see for yourself how you'll tap into Amazon's traffic.

So, we know that Amazon is best known for Books, so click on the 'Books' tab within Amazon's members area. This will take you to a different page.

In the upper left corner you'll see a 'Search Books' search box.

Now, for the purpose of this exercise, just so that we're on the same page, lets use 'internet marketing' as the search term.

So, go ahead and type that in and press GO!.

You should now see a bunch of listings on books related to 'internet marketing'.

Scroll down and select the "33 Days To Online Profits" link. This will bring you to its Product Description page.

Within this Product Description page you'll find Product Details, Editorial Reviews and most important of all, All Customer Reviews.

Notice I said "and most important of all, All Customer Reviews".

Thats right, all you need to do is 'Write Reviews' on books within your particular Niche and when potential customers are reviewing the book you wrote the review on and they scroll down and happen to read your review and click on Your Name to see what you're all about, guess what they'll see?

They'll see your profile with your Name, Nick Name, eMail Address and your 'About Me' description with your Domain Name screaming out at them which can easily be typed into there browser.

Once you have a link take the following steps to incorporate the affiliate link into your surfing activities:
1. Add a signature to your emails, this will mean that every mail you send will have a tag line at the bottom which, in this case, will promote the service that you are affiliated with. Check the help files in your email program for instructions on how to do this.
2. If you already visit forums related to the product add a signature to your profile. This means that every time you post your link will be added to the end of your post.
Locate more forums where people interested in the product might hang out. Do a search for a keyword followed by forum at

Google.
Try and think of all the different related subjects that might have forums and identify as many as possible.
Once you have identified your forums visit them all and join the ones that allow posters to add a signature file to their posts. Then get involved in conversations be useful whenever possible and every time you post an item your affiliate link will be displayed. This will be a lot less like work if you are promoting in a niche that is of interest to you.
3. If you have an eBay account then create an About Me page and include details of the affiliate program there. Click help once logged in to eBay and search for About Me to find instructions on creating your page.
Whenever you list an auction include a line at the top of the description that invites viewers to visit your About Me page.
4. Locate sites that have visitors that might be interested in the product that you are affiliated with especially those that have a mailing list or an ezine. Then contact the site owner and suggest that they join the affiliate program. If they join using your link you will earn a percentage of any commissions that they earn.
5. Repeat, Repeat, Repeat. With so many things success comes down to numbers. The more site owners you contact and the more forums that you post at the more commission you will earn.
Do all of the above and you will earn money for no investment, it may take time and might start slowly but it will happen.

To get the maximum response from your 'Sig file' you should offer some incentive to visit your site. If you offer a free report or ebook you are more likely to generate interest and click thru's than if you simply ask them to come to your site.

Another good use of your 'Sig file' is to promote your newsletter or e-zine. Let people know that they can "Get an informative monthly newsletter by visiting www.yoursite.com and signing up now!"

Even though email signatures are extremely basic, and even though it will not single-handedly create your online success, it won't hurt. So, start including a 'Sig file' at the end of all your emails.

Tell-A-friend:

Using a "Tell-A-Friend" feature on your site is a great way to get qualified traffic. Because it is a personal referral from one of your visitors it is very powerful. If they didn't think your content was useful they wouldn't recommend your site.

Anybody who is referred to your site by a friend is less skeptical and more likely to buy. That's the visitor you want, right!

One more little trick to get people to refer your website to their friends is to offer an incentive. Similar to how you got people to click through from your 'Sig file'. Are you starting to notice a pattern here? If you want people to do what you want (click thru's, refer a friend, or buy your product) you have to give them a reason, an incentive, a BRIBE!
